Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was started in the year 2009 with an intake of 60 students. The department has well-furnished laboratories, according to the requirement of the syllabus framed by the Anna University. The course has an updated curriculum which is suitable to meet the latest innovation and demands of the industry.
The students association Power Engineers Technical Society (PETS) was inaugurated in the year 2011. Seminars, workshop on thrust areas, group discussions and communication skills supplement the regular classes. The department takes pride in forming successful technocrats who can render their best service with boundless competence and untiring dynamism.

To understand the basic principles that underlie modern electrical, electronic and computational technology, with that understanding of science and engineering principles, they are able to provide innovative solution to the problems.
To produce graduates who are capable of taking unique position in the broad aspects of electrical and electronics engineering that they become enlightened individuals and a socially responsible person.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES (POs)

Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations

The electrical machines laboratory is equipped with electrical machines such as DC motors (series motor, shunt motor, compound motor), DC generators (series generator, shunt generators, compound generator, AC single phase and three phase motors (induction motors, synchronous motors), alternators (salient pole type and cylindrical rotor type), single phase and three phase transformers. Measuring instruments such as AC/DC Voltmeter, Ammeter, Wattmeter, Power factor meter, Digital Tachometer are available. Wide variety of experiments are performed here, which gives enormous knowledge about the characteristics, design and application of various electrical machines.

The task of electrical engineers is to design, develop, test and maintain instruments, electronics and computer control systems that are used in the process industry. The control and Instrumentation laboratory combines both hardware and software facilities. The laboratory is equipped with CRO, digital oscilloscopes, various trainer kit, digital multimeters and loading inductor, capacitor, resistive loads and energy meter. The software used in the laboratory is MATLAB 8.6 with the control toolbox. With the help of automation techniques and computer-aided processes, students are instructed to formulate the ways to control the systems. This lab prepares students who seek to enter this stream by providing them with the intricate knowledge to manage and control instruments.

The Power Electronics Laboratory is equipped for designing, testing of switching analog circuits and simulation. The experiments in the power electronics involve control topologies, integration of switching converters, inverters, soft switching techniques, and three-phase active power filters, power conversion, and so on.

Power System Simulation laboratory is equipped with MiPower 9.0 and MATLAB 8.6 software packages. It helps the students to deal with the simulation and analysis of various power system problems such as load flow analysis, fault analysis, economic load dispatch, and unit commitment.

Engineering practice laboratory is to give basics on electrical components, wiring, circuit design and connections. This lab is equipped with basic electrical equipment like megger, live wire detector, switching and lighting equipment. The lab is utilized by students from all the departments to learn the basic Electrical Engineering.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) in association with the Institute of Innovation Council (IIC) has organized a one-day workshop on "Testing of Electronic Devices in Hardware".

Objective:

To Learn about the basics of electronic components and learn testing of electronic devices in hardware.

Report:

The second-year Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering students participated in this workshop. The students were taught about the basics of electronic components and working. They explained different types of electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, transistors, diode, inductors, multimeters, IC, and power amplifiers their uses, advantages, and disadvantages. He also explained a circuit for the practical implementation of the above components. He also taught EB circuit board work and how to calculate power consumption. Finally, the students gave their valuable feedback about their experience in the workshop. The session ended fruitfully with a vote of thanks.

Title: Seminar on "Job Opportunities in Semiconductor Devices"

Description:

On October 3. 2023, the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering had organized One-day seminar on “Job Opportunities in Semiconductor Devices” in our college conference hall to broaden the students practical understanding. In the presence of the department faculty and students, the seminar started with a prayer song and a holy book reading. Ms. V. Adhirai, third year student, acknowledges the resource person, Mr. S. Joseph Sebastian, Hardware engineer (Power and Performance) Intel technology India Pvt. Ltd. He is the SANCET’S Notable Alumni Student of 2015 cohort. The session was inaugurated by Mr. K. Sriram, Head of the department and honored the chief guest with a shawl. The souvenir was given by Mr. V. Balaji, AP/EEE and he also urged the students to pay close attention to the lecture for the entire time. Our resource person began by having a brief conversation with the students and then went on to discuss the many career options available to electrical engineers in the sector of the electronics industry. He also discussed several approaches with the students and mentioned the demand for engineers in the industrial sector. Description:

On the account of Engineers day celebration a One-day seminar has been organized on “Role of Engineers in Armed Forces” by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering on 14th September 2023, in our college premises at control and instrumentation laboratory. Mr. R. Rasu, CRPF, Para Military Force, Indian Army, Proud Alumni Student of 2022 batch, SANCET was the Resource Person and the event started with prayer song in the presence of Faculties and students of the department. Ms. Barani final year student gave welcome address and Mr. J. Ramesh AP/EEE Event coordinator inaugurated the session and honored the chief guest. Mr. K. Sriram AP/EEE introduced the chief guest and encouraged the students to listen the seminar with great interest throughout the session. Our resource person started with a small interaction with the students and he shows various opportunities of Electrical Engineers in field of Indian Army. He further gave idea to the students about the possible ways for applying the vacancies in armed forces. Title: Simulation Software for Electrical Engineering.

Description: The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at St. Anne's College of Engineering and Technology, Panruti, organized a five-day value-added course on "Simulation Software for Electrical Engineering" from 25th to 30th May, 2023, with the goal of providing the students with practical knowledge of Simulation software needed in their electrical systems. Mr. K. Sriram AP/EEE and Mr. V. Balaji AP/EEE led the course. The initiative was successful in providing a learning environment for the students as well as practical programming and modelling experience. The session also gave participants a place to interact and exchange ideas, offering up new possibilities for collaborative academic projects. The session topics were in line with the cutting-edge and recently emerging field of electrical engineering, which is of tremendous advantage to the participants. The most common advanced technologies in this field were explained to the attendees, which may have planted the seed of an inventive idea. The participants completed the simulation exercises that were given to them for exercise with effectiveness. When the floor was open for questions, the participants enthusiastically posed challenging inquiries, which the resource person answered in an appropriate manner. The session has aided the participants' intellectual growth in addition to helping them strengthen their programming and modelling skills. The valedictory ceremony and presentation of certificates marked the conclusion of the workshop.

Title: Solar Power Plant

Description:

A Knowledge sharing program on “Solar Power Plant” has been conducted by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering on 3rd September 2022 at St. Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology. Ms. D. Dhatchayani, GAT, NLC India Limited was the Resource Person and she is an alumni of our college. The event started with prayer in the presence of faculties and students of the department. Mr. V.C.Eugin Martin Raj HOD/EEE gave the welcome address and motivated the students to attend the seminar with great interest throughout the session. Ms. D. Dhatchayani explained the operation, maintenance, selection, and procurement process of land for the solar power plant. Then she said about sun path, PV module connection, power calculations and manufacturing processes of PV modules. She also explained various factors affecting solar irradiation. He further made the students to do more real time projects based on solar panels and made to understand the Grid system in power system to the students. Title: IoT Front and design Using KiCaD

Description:

With an objective to acquaint the students with practical knowledge of IOT in their electrical systems, Electrical and Electronics Department organized a Two-Day Hands-On Training Workshop on IoT Front and design Using KiCaD for UG students from 22^nd and 23^rd April,2022. The program was inaugurated by Mr. V.C.Eugin Martin Raj, HOD/EEE along with an inaugural speech Highlighting the importance of these topics for the students. The resource persons were Dr.G.R.Kanagachidambaresan Associate Professor, Department of CSE, Veltech Rangarajan Dr Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science. He explained about the various progress in IoT involved with electrical power systems. He also gave the students to design an APPS and to give coding foe working the models. As a part of hands-on training session and all the students designed a circuit and participated enthusiastically.The event was a successful one. The workshop was relevant to the title and were well-appreciated by the students. After completion of this workshop students have felt encouraged to explore these areas further. Description:

A Two-Day National Level Workshop on “Design and Development of E-vehicle” was organized successfully at St. Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology by Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering on 18.04.2022 and 19.04.2022. The workshop was planned with four different sessions. Two session was handled by Academicians and the other two sessions was handled by Industry experts. Each Sessions the chief guest and participants from Internal and External was welcomed by the Respective Coordinators and followed by honouring the chief guest in all sessions.

Inaugural Session was handled by Dr. S. Siva Sakthi, HoD/EEE, Krishnaswamy College of Engineering and Technology. Mr. K. Sriram ASP/EEE welcomed the chief Guest and the participants Our Beloved Secretary Dr. Y. YesuThangam gave the presidential address. Dr. R. Arokiadass, Principal gave the felicitation address. In his speech, he conveyed about the need and importance of the workshop. In this session our Resource Person has given the Overview of E-vehicle, Battery and machine selection for E-vehicle.

The second session was handled by the Industrial Resource person Mr.Roderik Eugune, Design Engineer, Graspear Solutions Pvt Ltd ,Chennai and the coordinator welcomed the chief guest with a memento and this session the participants acquired a brief knowledge about industrial oriented design and development of e-vehicle.

Next Day the 3^rd session was handled by Dr.N.Kamakannan AsoP/EEE, Agni Institute of Technology ,Chennai. Session started with a welcome address by Mr.A.Richard Pravin AsoP/EEE, Our Chief Guest was honoured with a shawl and memento. this session was covered with Overview of E-vehicle types, design aspects and considerations in E-vehicle.

The valedictory session was presided by Mr. A. V. Easwar, General Manager, Tri Electric Pvt Ltd, Chennai. In this session he shared more ideas on Start-Ups and Business Opportunities in the field of E-vehicle. The session concluded by feedback and certificate distribution by Dr. R. The seminar focused on how artificial intelligence is known to be the intelligence exhibited by machines and software. Since Mr. K. Sriram was doing his research work in power system he gave more ideas and various concepts which signifies the need for Artificial Intelligence in Electrical Technology.

He further explains in his seminar that Artificial intelligence is an emerging technology that not only studies the theory, technology, and application systems for simulating and extending human intelligence, involving various disciplines such as psychology, cognitive science, thinking, information science, system science, and bioscience. Mr. K. Sriram also gave a small hands-on training session to the students with a small example on Problem Solving Optimization methods used in Power System to show AI has great potential and space for optimization in the field of Electrical Engineering.

Title: Two-Day Workshop on “Design and Fabrication on Printed Circuit Board”

Description:

With an objective to acquaint the students with knowledge of designing for electrical board, fabrication of circuits on PCB, were are not included in the presentcurriculum, Electrical and Electronics Department and electronics and communication Engineering Department, jointly organized a two day hands on training workshop for UG students from 27th and 28thSeptember,2021.

The program was inaugurated by Mr. V.C.Eugin Martin Raj, HOD/EEE along with an inaugural speechhighlighting the importance of these topics for the students.The resource persons were Mr.GuruPrasana,Technical Consultant Engineer and Mr.Sankar, Technical Consultant from Si-Tech solutions, Chennai. Both of them explained about the various designing methodology and advanced fabrication methods used in printed circuit boards.

Mr.Guruprasanaand Mr.Sankartaught sample circuits design and showedthem how to fabricate on PCB boards. Students were given hands on training session as a part of Workshop and all the students designed a circuit and participated enthusiastically.

The event was a successful one. The workshop was relevant to the title and were well-appreciated bythe students. After completion of this workshop students have felt encouraged to explore these areasfurther.Herewith we have attached some highlights of our workshop

A One-day seminar on “INTERVIEW SKILLS” for the final year has been conducted by Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering on 01st October 2021, at St. Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology.

The seminar was aimed to guide the participant students on how to prepare for and succeed in Job Interviews. Mr. Eugin Martin Raj HOD/EEE commenced the session at 3:00 PM by a small introduction of our eminent speaker Mr. A. Richard Pravin, AP/EEE and Mrs. J. Arul Martinal AP/EEE welcomed the gathering.

Our Resource Person had a very direct and practical approach of training to develop required skills and imparted useful knowledge with a lot of real life examples, best practices and pointing out typical mistakes and ways of avoiding those. He pointed out that the job nature is becoming more and more competitive and with more competition, students need to know- How to be their best and also how to market themselves to hiring employers/managers.

The session has covered in detail discussion about Right Mind-set to prepare for Interview, Overall approach just before interview, Facing Job interview comfortably, understanding what is that interviewer is looking for , do and don’ts during interview, Body language tips, Interview Questions - how to face them if Technical and how to face them if HR/Behavioral Questions .

Title: Workshop on "Product Development using Internet of Things"

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized a two days workshop on "Product Development using Internet of Things" from 19th to 20th March 2021.The Students of II Year and III Year had participated in this training program. The training session was handled by . Dr. G.R.Kanagachidambaresan, Associate Professor, Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr.Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology. He trained our students in the field of wireless interfacing of sensor and Remote controlling of various devices using Raspberry Zero and Raspberry Pi. He also guided the students to do Programs in Raspberry using Python and Node Red. This training program was really an eye opener for our students in the field of Internet of Things. Through this training program students gained a greater confidence in developing IoT products using their own ideas. Also best five students from these training program was selected for 15 days internship training on DRDO/ISRO project under the guidance of Dr. G.R. Kanagachidambaresan.

Mr. S. Kavimani, Technical Lead, Master Audio from Vadalur, lectured about the specific components of audio-related circuits and electronics. Audio electronics can be summarized as converting sound to electrical signals, processing the electrical signals, and turning these processed signals back into sound. This is a straight forward objective; nevertheless, this particular discipline of electrical engineering covers many areas of the EE world. In fact, many practicing engineers spend their entire careers researching, developing, and designing audio electronics and related equipment.

Our Guest gave us a brief idea about the installation of components for optimum performance, from custom speaker baffles, tuned subwoofer enclosures and the new range of over-sized head.

Description:

Two day Workshop on “IoT Using Arduino for Electrical Engineering Application” on the Friday 26th September, 2019, at St. Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology, Panruti organized by Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The goal of the workshop led by Mr. Salai deva Thirumani, Technical engineer, AIDELTECZ, pudhukottai, was to prepare thinking for a Demonstrator project on IoT in the domestic context.

The workshop exposed concerns about new dimension surfaces that might be exposed by pervasive deployment of IoT devices, and identified the need for IoT data structures that layer data with contextualised information, device identity, application definition, and permissions for use.

The key themes that emerged from presentations and discussion covered social and technical aspects of IoT deployment in the home. Participants homed in on energy management and micro-trading within a street or a district, and how well IoT and voice-activated devices would be accepted, when they are part of a standard house design, rather than being fitted by geeky enthusiasts.

Tools and advisory frameworks for procurement, deployment and maintenance of IoT systems were also discussed, along with the qualification of products and services.

The students were exposed to a great level of innovation by the resource person and sparkled the listener to see every component in engineering applications.
