Department of Science and Humanities

The Department of Sciences and Humanities was established in 2009-2010 with a view to consolidating basics of sciences and English language. The department has highly qualified and motivated faculty members. The faculty members consistently enrich themselves in a variety of ways such as participating and conducting seminars, conferences and workshops, presenting papers and publishing articles in order to keep themselves current for efficient classroom management and to meet the challenges of a fast changing technical world. As part of co-curriculum it organizes seminars or conference annually. It also consistently encourages and trains the students to participate in paper presentation and cultural programmes at various levels. Faculty members are showing keen interest to motivate the students to participate in various aspects like workshop, seminar, conference and symposium. Moreover it focuses the students’ personality development and soft skills to make them as a refined human being. The faculty members counsel the students to overcome their adulthood and psychological problems. Moreover, the faculty members are involved in disciplinary activities to build a very good relationship among the students.

The Language Lab helps the students to acquire the competency and command over English Language. It also improves their Communication Skills, Soft Skills, Presentation Skills, Phonetics and Grammar. The lab enables students to appear for an interview and make them to face the global needs and challenges. The lab yields the students not only the knowledge in various aspects of communication skills but also helps them to gain self confidence and to overcome the fear of speaking in public.

The Physics Laboratory is spacious, well-equipped and good infrastructure with cost of 15 lacks. A separate dark room is attached for the conduct of optics experiments. All the experiments are designed to correlate theoretical knowledge with the practical applications. Physics department has splendid laboratory to enhance the practical skills which will enable them to excel in their final year project. Some of the major equipment in the laboratories:
• LASER, SPECTROMETER, ULTRASONIC INTERFEROMETER,FIBRE OPTIC KIT, TRAVELLING MICROSCOPE, BAND GAP APPARATUS,CAREY FOSTER BRIDGE

Chemistry Laboratory has safety measures and well equipped, more spacious, good ventilated laboratory with cost of 20 lacks in eco-friendly nature. Some of the major equipment available in the laboratory:
• POTENTIOMETER,CONDUCTOMETRY,SPECTROPHOTOMETRY,PH – METER,VISCOMETER,FLAMEPHOTOMETER

• Mr.A.John Peter has published a paper on “Enhanced photoluminescence of Li3Ba2Gd3 (MoO4)8:Eu3+ red phosphor synthesized by mechanochemically assisted direct solid state reaction method at room temperature” at Journal of Material Science; Materials in Electronics. (Springer Publication, Annexure-I) DOI 10.1007/s10854-014-2645-0

• Presented a paper at the "5 th International Conference on Luminescence and its Applications (ICLA 2015)” held at PES University, Bangalore during February 9-12, 2015 in collaboration with Luminescence Society of India (LSI) on the occasion of LSI’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations (1990-2015)

• Presented a paper at the “3rd International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICONN 2015)” organized by Department of Physics and Nanotechnology, during February 4-6, 2015 at SRM University in association with Shizuoka University, Japan, Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences, New Zealand and co-sponsored by DST-SERB, DRDO and DBT, Government of India

• Mrs. S. Bharathi, Assistant Professor /English has presented a paper in Seethalakshmi Aachi college for women .Karaikudi in August 2014.

• Mrs. S. Bharathi, Mrs.L.M.Sowmiya Mr.A.Azhagappan and Mr.A.John Peter Presented papers at the National conference held in our college on 27th February 2015.

• Science and Humanities Engineering Students association (SHESA) was inaugurated on February 25th 2015 by Dr.N.Sathyanarayana, Prof. in physics Pondicherry University

• A workshop was conducted on “Trouble shooting of laptop and computer” by Mr.V.Raja , Director of Electronics institute cuddalore.

• A motivation programme was conducted for the freshers on 6th August. The resourse person was Dr. R.Gopal Teacher Educator, Directorate of education Puducherry.

• Ms.A.Anne Evangelin Ms.Anisha Christy Ms.Soffie and Mr.L.Vijay Presented papers at the National conference held in our college on 27th February 2015.

• Mr.Almalu and Mr.HerwinDass exhibited their talents in the National level Science Day competition held in Dr.Paul’s college of engineering on 28th February 2015.
