The Department of Sciences and Humanities was established in 2009-2010 with a view to
consolidating basics of sciences and English language. The department has highly qualified
and motivated faculty members. The faculty members consistently enrich themselves in a
variety of ways such as participating and conducting seminars, conferences and workshops,
presenting papers and publishing articles in order to keep themselves current for efficient
classroom management and to meet the challenges of a fast changing technical world. As part
of co-curriculum it organizes seminars or conference annually. It also consistently
encourages and trains the students to participate in paper presentation and cultural
programmes at various levels. Faculty members are showing keen interest to motivate the
students to participate in various aspects like workshop, seminar, conference and symposium.
Moreover it focuses the students’ personality development and soft skills to make them as a
refined human being. The faculty members counsel the students to overcome their adulthood
and psychological problems. Moreover, the faculty members are involved in disciplinary
activities to build a very good relationship among the students.
To develop very high technical skills bundled with Interpersonal skills to make them the best qualified students for future needs.

The Language Lab helps the students to acquire the competency and command over English Language. It also improves their Communication Skills, Soft Skills, Presentation Skills, Phonetics and Grammar. The lab enables students to appear for an interview and make them to face the global needs and challenges. The lab yields the students not only the knowledge in various aspects of communication skills but also helps them to gain self confidence and to overcome the fear of speaking in public.
The Physics Laboratory is spacious, well-equipped and good infrastructure with cost of
15 lacks. A separate dark room is attached for the conduct of optics experiments. All
the experiments are designed to correlate theoretical knowledge with the practical
applications. Physics department has splendid laboratory to enhance the practical skills

The Resource Person of this program was Mr. Ashley Dominic Benny, Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies, Sri ManakulaVinayagar Engineering College, Puducherry.
The program began with prayer followed by Welcome address by Dr. M. Marshal Arunkumar (S&H). Then, the speaker delivered a wonderful lecture on Personality and Attitude. The presenter who himself is a source of motivation to students gave encouraging examples from his own life and inspired students to be a self-motivator. He discussed the importance of positive thinking and attitude which brings optimism into life and such constructive changes can make one brighter and more successful. This program helped students to be guided by a positive mind and driven by self-motivation.
Nearly 160 students and staff from St.Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology attended the program. The session ended with a round of discussion and vote of thanks by Mr. K. Rackesh Jawahar (S&H).

The Inauguration ceremony of the new academic year 2021-2022 was held on October, 25th 2021 in the st.Anne’s CET, Panruti at the college auditorium.
The chief guests secretary Rev. sr. Dr.Y.Yesu Thangam, principal Dr.R.Arokiadass, Vice Principal Sr. Punitha Jilt and st.Anne’s CET alumna Ms.S. Saranya( Direct Assistant, Health Manpower Development Institute, villupuram.) inaugurated the function by lighting the lamb.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with a prayer by sisters of st.Anne’s CET. The welcome speech was efficiently delivered by the vice principal Sr. Punitha Jilt. Then, the principal addressed the students by suggesting success belongs to those who believe in the power of their ideas. Next, the secretary Rev. Sr. Dr. Y.Yesu Thangam presided over inauguration function and stressed enough on the profound importance of the personal responsibilities for becoming responsible citizen. Then, st.Anne’s CET alumna Ms. S.Saranya advised the students to be focused on their studies, she also emphasized the importance of communication skills in the work place.
Finally, Mr.N.Syed Mubarak (Head of the Department, Science and Humanities) faithfully delivered the vote of thanks .The Inaugural function was concluded with the National Anthem.

The Department of Science and Humanities has arranged an Inter –College Virtual Quiz & Science Fair Competitions -2021 on 08.01.2021 to remember Stephen Hawking, the renowned scientist, known for his contributions to the study of the universe, from the origins of the cosmos to the mysterious nature of black holes, The longtime Cambridge professor, roaming the campus grounds in his electric chair and speaking in the deadpan, robotic voice of his speech synthesizer. “If you are sensitive towards your surrounding and identify the real problems of it, fruitful innovations come up naturally,” Students were asked to choose their favourite topic and create a scientific working model to explain it. They made still models, colourful charts, posters, working models, and so on. The students also gave a beautiful and detailed explanation of their models to all the viewers with basic scientific principles. They were even questioned about the scientific concepts and theories behind their project. Various sustainable topics and ideas were picked up and demonstrated visually. All of them showcased their best talent and abilities both verbally and mentally.

Stephen Hawking was born on January 08, 1942 exactly 300 years after the death of Galileo. Coincidently, he died on 14th March 2018, on the Birth Date of Albert Einstein. Dr. S. Jancy Sophia, Assistant Professor , Department of Chemistry, C. Kandasamy Naidu College for Women , Cuddalore- 607001, Resource Person, revealed his early life, about his books and Awards and Honors received by him. Hawking was a mediocre graduate student at Cambridge. Recently in 2014, Biographical Romantic Drama Film “The Theory of Everything” was directed including the details of his relationship with his wife. He was honoured with Several Awards for his contribution in Physics (general relativity and quantum gravity, especially in the context of black holes.) and she inspired students by telling about his sufferings with the rare and incurable neurological disease i.e. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. This disease paralysed him over the decades. Though the seminar was heart touching but his zest and will in life proved to be a great inspiration for all of us.

he Department of Science and Humanities has organised a webinar on “VIRTUAL INDUSTRIAL VISIT” on 08.01.2021 at 11.30 a.m. The objective of the visit is to provide an opportunity for the students to expose themselves virtually to industrial environment and correlate the theoretical knowledge with practical aspect. Mr. A. Mark Vimal Jarard, Precommissioning Manager, Desalination Plant, Jurong Engineering Limited, Kingdom of Bahrain, explained the importance of safety rules and safety procedures followed inside the company and discussed about the company product and operation. Sur desalination plant uses sea water which is high potential solution to convert sea water into potable drinking water and uses innovative technologies which are ecologically and economically efficient. Later He showed them the various units of the company and explained about Beach well Catchment, Pre-treatment, High-pressure Pumps and Energy Recovery, Reverse Osmosis (RO), Post-treatment, and Drinking Water Storage processing. During the Virtual Industry visit, the students were also able to see the various high pressure pumps, safety valves, flow measuring devises, flow control valves and chemical treatment.

The First Year students showcased their brilliance by rapidly answering the questions. Though some of the questions were very tricky, the students were tried to answer them with confidence. The inauguration of Student Induction Program for the fresher’s of St. Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology, Panruti was celebrated on 11.11.2020 at the College Auditorium by 10.00am. The programme was started with the prayer and prayer song. Rev. Sr. A. Punitha Jilt, Vice Principal /HOD (CSE) formally welcomed all the dignitaries present on the dais, parents, colleagues and the students. Dr. R. Arokiadass, Principal, delivered the inaugural address and stressed upon the importance of ethics in human lives and urged that everyone had the potential to face extraordinary challenges and emerge victorious. He inspired the students by his motivational speech. College Secretary Rev. Sr. Dr. Y. Yesu Thangam, SAT has presided over the function and delivered the presidential address. She highlighted that rules existing for the well being of all students in the campus. She insisted that there was a pressing need to address issues related to value and discipline among the youth belonging to the generation of smart phones and internet wherein information is available at the click of a mouse. At last Prof. Dr. A.John Peter, HOD (S&H), presented Vote of thanks. He thanked all the invited parents and students for gracing the occasion by their solemn presence. To pertain the knowledge about the inner atmosphere and industrial acquaintances, Department of Sciences and Humanities had organized an industrial tour for First year Students of 2019-2023 batch to International Bakery Products Ltd (Factory), Sriperumbudur on 15- February-2020. The objective of the Industrial Visit is to help students to gain first hand information regarding functioning of the Industry, which presents the students with opportunities to plan, organize and engage in active learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom and to understand the application of theory into practice. It provided an opportunity for students to interact with entrepreneurs and executives associated with the industry. It helped students to understand the journey of product from place of production to customer's hands and management strategies, which made this journey fruitful. The executives of International Bakery Products Plant helped the students to understand the various intricacies of different departments and also took the students for the factory visit. On the onset the officials explained to the students in brief about the International Bakery Products Plant –Raw materials, Plant Layout, Market, Industry view etc. And they also explained the process which begins from the Raw materials to the finished products. Students understood the punctuality and the discipline in the corporate. Furthermore, the security management, the Professionalism, Team work and sense of belonging, Cordial Environment, Job Opportunities and moreover the realm of the company were known.

The Department of Science and Humanities has organized a guest lecture by Dr. F. Jancy Sophia, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, C. Kandasamy Naidu College for Women, Cuddalore on 11th February, 2020 on “Applications of NanoScale Science and Engineering”. Prof. Jancy Sophia gave introduction to Nanotechnology and brief history of research in nanomaterials. She explained changes of physical and chemical properties of materials at nanoscale. She also explained the applications of nanomaterials in the field of cosmetics, space technologies, diagnostics and therapeutic practices, especially treating cancer, gene therapy and in vitro diagnostics. She also discussed how nanoscale material has made a difference in many areas of engineering and technology, such as energy, environmental pollution control, textile, automobile and electronics. The entire session was very interactive and students were allowed to ask their queries during the whole session

An industrial visit was arranged for the first year students on 28.03.2018. Nearly 130 students with 15 staff members started by our college bus at 9.30 a.m. First we went to Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited and visited Mine I area. NLC officers explained the history of Mine I and gave a nice explanation on the process involved in the generation of power in Mine I which benefited our students. Later we went to the birth place of Vallalar and places in and around Vadaloor. It was a very useful trip and our students were much benefited.
